Before you book
What you need to hire a car abroad
- A full driving licence held for at least 12 months (24 for some premium cars); an International Driving Permit is needed in some countries.
- A credit card in the main driver's name for the security deposit.
- Most suppliers set a minimum age of 21 and charge a young driver fee under 25.
- Check the fuel policy: full-to-full is almost always the cheapest.
Our team confirms availability with the supplier and sends a quote valid for 48 hours. Pay by card through the secure link in the email and your voucher follows straight away.
How can I pay for my booking?
You can pay by debit or credit card. Payments are processed by Stripe, a regulated payment provider, and all prices are shown and charged in pounds sterling. If you pay with a card issued in another currency, your bank sets the exchange rate and may charge a fee. If our travel team has sent you a quote, we will explain how to pay securely when you accept it.
Is it safe to pay on oliey.com?
Yes. You enter your card details in Stripe's secure payment form, and they are sent to Stripe over an encrypted connection, so Oliey never sees or stores your full card number. Your bank may also ask you to approve the payment, which is an extra security check. We will never ask you for your card details, PIN or online banking passwords by email or phone. If you receive a message like this claiming to be from us, do not reply.
Do you charge booking fees or card fees?
We do not charge extra for paying by card. If an Oliey booking or service fee applies, it is included in the total shown before you pay, so you can see exactly what you are paying for. A separate service fee may apply if you later ask us to change or cancel a booking, and we always tell you the amount before we go ahead.
Why has my bank asked me to approve the payment?
Many online card payments in the UK need strong customer authentication, which is your bank's way of checking that it is really you. You may be asked to approve the payment in your banking app, enter a code sent by text, or use your fingerprint or face. If you do not complete this step, the payment will not go through and your booking will not be made, so keep your phone to hand when you pay.
