Staying in London

London has something for every kind of trip, from the British Museum and the Tower of London to West End shows, Borough Market and a walk along the South Bank. Many of the city's major museums and galleries are free to enter, and its royal parks offer plenty of space to slow down between sights.

If you live in Scotland, Northern Ireland or elsewhere far from the capital, cheap flights to London can be quicker than the train, with regular routes from Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Belfast and other UK airports. Most flights take around an hour to an hour and a half. From Heathrow, the Elizabeth line, the Piccadilly line and the Heathrow Express all run into central London.

Best time to visit: May to September brings the longest days and warmest weather, while late November and December are popular for festive lights and markets.
